2D Composition - Drew Struzan
This week we are to examine composition from the artist Drew Struzan. I liked his Return to Oz poster because it has such vibrant colors and it has two different types of composition. Circular and Iconic.

2D Week 4 - Value
Here I created values from a sketch from Frank Frazetta. This was to practice values but we also used a workflow and color theory from Valve's DOTA designs. One of the things Valve does with it's characters is to create a Value Gradient. A Value Gradient is used to create the illusion of depth and three-dimensionality to their characters. The value should shift from darkest at the feet to the lightest at their upper body and head. This makes their characters more visually pleasing and it helps players see their characters more easily.

2D Week 3 - Brian Froud Silhouettes
These are character silhouettes inspired by the work of Brian Froud.
I really like how he mixes amphibian and insect like body types to his woodland creatures so I decided to emphasize that in these iterations.
I picked this sketch since it has both the insect look and fairy like wings.
I used the image as a reference for it's silhouette and made some new character silhouettes using designs found among his other pieces.

2D Week 3 - Brian Froud Reference
This week we are going to use Brian Froud as inspiration for our next assignment.
I tried to find as many interesting pieces of his work that I could find. I'm not a huge fan of his work but I do like his fairy designs.

3D Week 2 - Cannon Proxy Model
This week we made a proxy model for a cannon that we will be creating this semester. It is modeled in Maya and uploaded into Unreal Engine.
This is the model in Maya. This screen shot shows the geometry through wire frame.
This is what the model looks like when brought and duplicated into Unreal Engine. Player character is shown to see the scale.

Week 1 Figure Drawing - Skeleton
This week we began our figure drawing by focusing on what lies under the skin, the skeleton. The idea was to see beneath the skin to find the form of the human body.
Here is the back. I actually went and drew the bones beneath the skin to help me visualize the structure.
This is the front.
And then the side view.
I'm very eager to get more practice in, it has been a long while since I've done figure drawing and I am quite rusty. I will get the hang of it soon for sure!

2D Art Week 1 - Syd Mead Illustration
This week is a practice with basic shapes in Photoshop.
The subject this week was Syd Mead and his futuristic illustrations. After looking through many of his pieces I decided to examine his Running of the Six Drgxx. This piece is so dynamic and I wanted to capture the movement accurately in addition to the practice with basic shapes.
First was a rough draft to feel out the shape and line of the subject. I decided not to get too in my head about all the small details. I wanted to capture the likeness first and foremost.
The next step was to start some shading to find where the light and shadows rest on the subject. I also took the liberty to add some color that is embedded in the original image.
Because the original illustration had such dynamic movement I decided to use an enlarged charcoal brush to add the dust clouds and debris. This helps make the subject feel like its leaping off the page.
I really enjoyed playing around with the shapes here and all the possibilities of recreating this part of the original illustration.
